Joysa Hands-Free Electric Breast Pump

I recently took an extremely short trip to Traverse City and back. I flew, and let me tell you there is nothing fun about traveling through the airport and having to find places to pump.

While traveling, I had my spectra breast pump. It is fine, I don’t really have any complaints about it, but it is inconvenient to pump while you are on the go. Especially when the “‘Mother’s Room” at the airport is on the other side of security so you would have to leave the terminal and go through security again. (This happened during my connecting flight in Nashville). After my flying experience, I was thinking, there has to be an easier way. I have always seen the Elvie and Willow pumps and think, gosh this would be so convenient… but there is a very steep price tag with those pumps. That’s when I found the Joysa pump.

The Joysa Breast Pump

The Joysa pump is very similar to the Elvie and Willow pumps. It is operated by rechargeable batteries. You can just place the pump in your bra, and walk around freely while pumping. I am telling you these things are amazing and they are a fraction of the price. I got 2 pumps (one for each breast) for about 100 bucks.

They are a little bulkier than the Elvie and Willow pumps. You can definitely see them under your shirt while wearing them. But that doesn’t bother me at all. The battery also detaches from the pump so it can be charged independently. One thing I don’t love about the pump is that the batteries don’t stay on the best. You have to be careful not to knock them off.

I recently went to a wedding this past weekend. The wedding was outdoors and there really wasn’t a place to pump and the hotel we were staying at was miles away. We took a shuttle to the ceremony and stayed there all night. I just packed one of these pumps in my handbag and brought it with me. This made it incredibly easy to pump discreetly. I didn’t have to worry about finding a place to plug it in or worry about someone seeing my boobs. I just popped it in my dress for a few minutes, emptied it, and put it on my other boob. It was great not having to lug around my giant breast pump and bag to the wedding, or not being able to pump at all during the wedding. We were there from 2:30- till after midnight, so there was no way I would have been able to wait that long.

At first, I was worried that the suction wouldn’t be enough. I was wrong, the suction works great. It is able to empty my breasts no problem. Each pump can hold over 6 oz. You do have to be careful when you remove it from your boob because milk can leak out of the center if you are not careful.

If you are considering purchasing an electric breast pump, here are some pros and cons to the Joysa.

Pros

  • Easy to use on the go or at home when you don’t want to be tied to a chair while pumping.
  • Great suction.
  • Reasonably priced
  • Small and easy to bring with
  • Easy to clean
  • Universal charging cord
  • Only a few parts. Easy to take apart and put back together.

Cons

  • The batteries do not last extremely long. They last a few sessions and then need to be recharged
  • The battery falls off easily. It has to be set on just right to work correctly.
  • Can spill breast milk if you do not remove it carefully.

Overall, if you are considering an electric breast pump, but do not want to pay 500+ for the Elvie or Willow, this is a GREAT option.
