How the Merlin’s Magic Sleepsuit Saved my Sanity
So our baby has never been the best of sleepers. She liked to get up and eat multiple times a night and really loved her pacifier and would freak out if it fell out of her mouth. This resulted in my getting up every time the paci fell out to put it back in. To be honest, I was going crazy.
I have a great husband, he loves to clean, is so sweet to me, and loves our daughter dearly. However, during these months of sleeplessness, I started to hate him. Everything he did made me mad. I was so irritable all the time. This was directly related to me getting no sleep.
We had started our baby in the Love to Dream swaddle. She loved them for a while, it was the only thing she would sleep in. But one night she started to not want to go to bed in it. She would arch her back and roll to her stomach. When it would be time to put her to bed she would get angry and just want to escape her swaddle. It was becoming a fight to put her down at night. At that point, I knew we had to make a change in her sleeping regiment.
How We Heard About the Merlin’s Magic Sleepsuit
Earlier that week, I was at the park with some of my mom friends and they were all talking about this magic suit. They all swore by it. All of the women said it was the best for getting your baby to sleep through the night. I figured our baby was too young and didn’t need something like this quite yet, but decided to order it so we had it when she was ready.
When it arrived, I was soo sleep-deprived that I was ready to try anything to get just a few more minutes of sleep. So, I decided to give the suit a shot.
Prior to the suit, my baby would go to bed at 10 pm, and would generally wake up around 1:00 am, 3:30 am, 5:30 am, and 7:00 am.
The first night in the suit, she slept from 10:30 pm until 5:00 am. Of course, being a first-time, overprotective mom, I woke up at those same times just to check on her and make sure she was still breathing. We have the owlet sock, which makes it extremely easy to check on her.
The next night, the same thing happened. She was sleeping longer stretches and getting more deep sleep hours ( I know this because of her smart sock).
Sleep without Merlin’s Magic Sleepsuit vs. with the Sleepsuit
Our Owlet Smart Sock Tracks our baby’s sleep each night and alerts us if there is something wrong. You can see on the charts below how much better our baby slept on July 29 (with her sleepsuit) vs. July 26th (without the sleepsuit). The light purple lines indicate a light sleep, the dark purple lines indicate a deep sleep, and the pinkish-orange lines indicate awake time.
You can see the on the 26th she work up at midnight, around 1:30, around 2:30, and again around 2:45, around 5:30, and again around 6:30, then she woke u a little after 8:00. On the 29th, she slept all the way from 10:30 until 5:00 am.
The first night she slept that long, I woke up every hour to check on her. The following night, I slept so well. I woke up feeling like a new woman. It was a miracle, I was finally able to get more than just a few hours of sleep at a time. I have continued to get adequate sleep this past month. Now, I am a much more pleasant person to be around, and I no longer get mad at my husband for no reason.
What is Merlin’s Magic Sleepsuit
The sleepsuit is a product designed to transition your baby out of a swaddle. The Magic Sleepsuit was designed by a mother of four who is a pediatric physical therapist. They created the sleepsuit to help improve the quality of babies’ sleep to support growth and development.
It is made out of a fleece outer layer and a soft jersey cotton inner layer. The two layers are filled with a layer of polyfill. It almost seems like a weighted blanket. It restricts the baby’s movement so that their startle reflexes do not wake them up. They still have access to their hands if they are determined to get them to their mouth.
The sleepsuit is great because it has double zippers making it easy for nighttime diaper changes. It has a scooped neckline to keep the fabric out of baby’s face, it also helps with nighttime feedings. Also like I said above baby’s hands and feet are free.
Where can I buy the sleepsuit?
The sleepsuit is sold at a variety of retailers. We purchased ours off amazon because we have prime, and that made the most sense for us. I know that you can also find them at target. The sleepsuit comes in 3 different colors, yellow, pink, and blue. We chose the yellow because it is more gender-neutral in case we have another child in the future.
The sleepsuit also comes in 2 different sizes. The small is recommended for babies who are 3-6 months of age. The large is recommended for babies 6-9 months of age.

Let me know if you have tried the sleepsuit, and if it worked for you. It worked wonders for me and many of my friends, but it may not be for everyone.
