The Ultimate First Trimester of Pregnancy Must-Have List

As you are reading this post, I am sitting here pregnant with my first child. This being our first child, I had done all the research of things I would need for the first trimester of pregnancy even before I was pregnant. I wanted to make sure I was prepared for when the day came. To say the least, my husband and I are planners, and we like to be prepared. We have also been welcomed with an abundance of advice because many of our close friends are either pregnant or recently have had a child.

I am currently almost 18 weeks pregnant, so just a few weeks out of the first trimester. I will tell you, that things get A LOT better immediately after leaving the first trimester. At least they did for me and many of my friends.

The first trimester is by far the hardest for everyone. You’re tired, your nauseous, and you can’t even tell anyone your pregnant. To help you get through the first trimester with ease, I have compiled a list of items that have helped me.

First Trimester of Pregnancy Must-Haves

Prenatal Vitamins

Olly Prenatal Gummy Vitamins

Prenatal Vitamins

This is probably the most important thing to do as soon as you find out your pregnant. It is important that the baby gets all of the essential nutrients in the early stages of pregnancy. You want to make sure your prenatal vitamin has DHA and Folic Acid in it.

Olly Prenatal Soft Gels

Prenatal Vitamins

I used the Olly brand gummy vitamins at first during pregnancy. They taste great and did not cause nausea. However, I realized that these vitamins do not have iron in them. I have a history of low iron, so I decided to buy the soft gel vitamins instead, which contain iron. They are more expensive, but if you need iron, I would recommend these instead.

Morning Sickness Remedies

Ginger Candies

Ginger ale

Saltine Crackers

First Trimester- Saltines

My morning sickness was luckily not too bad. However, I was armed and prepared for it, so maybe it just muted my symptoms. I drank the mini ginger ale cans because I was trying to not drink too much soda. The Morning sickness candies and the Gin-Gins were helpful to suck on throughout the day.

Saltine Crackers were the real key to reducing morning sickness for me. If I would wait too long to eat, I would start to feel nauseous. I would keep these in my desk, and grab one or two for a quick snack every hour or so to make sure my stomach was never empty .

Stretch Mark Prevention

Bio-Oil

Burts Bee’s Belly Butter

First Trimester- Belly Butter

It is essential to start stretch marks early. You want to prevent them before they happen. Keeping your skin hydrated is key. I use these two products currently. I was worried that I wouldn’t like the oil because I do not like when my skin feels greasy. However, this oil dries quickly and does not leave your skin feeling greasy at all.

Pant Extenders

Belly Bands

This is something I wish I had ordered sooner. I just placed an order for these. It seems like one day my pants and everything fit me, and the next day none of my pants fit. I wish I had purchased these in advance so I would have had them when I needed them. I’ve been living in leggings but that is hard to dress up leggings in a professional environment. I chose these because of their great reviews on Amazon.

Pregnancy Pillow

PharMeDoc Pregnancy Pillow

Now I would not say this is a necessity, but I included it because I absolutely love mine. It is so comfortable to sleep in, even my husband wants one. I am a back sleeper, and when you get into your mid-second trimester you are not supposed to sleep on your back. I bought this to help me train to sleep on my side. It has been very helpful for that. However, I do catch myself waking up on my back every once in a while, but it has helped me tremendously. There are many different shapes of pregnancy pillows, I ordered this one because it had outstanding reviews, and was on sale.

Pregnancy Books

What to Expect When You’re Expecting

There is also an app you can download that gives you details about your baby and provides resources to the mother.

We’re Pregnant – The First-Time Dad’s Pregnancy Handbook

It is hard for the guy to get excited in the early stages of pregnancy, especially the first trimester. You probably don’t feel well, you’re not acting yourself, you probably don’t look pregnant, so it’s understandable why it is hard for the men to get excited in the early stages. This book helped my husband understand exactly what I was going through each week, and how the baby was developing. It even gave the men things that they can do to help you out, and prepare for the baby. My husband and I read a new chapter every Sunday night before bed.

These products helped me get through the first trimester with as much ease as possible, and I hope they will help you through your pregnancy too! Leave a comment below and let me know what you find helpful during your pregnancy!
